Valley Vista is a team that one day hopes to dominate with its running game the way LaJoya’s did Friday night.

The Monsoon fell to 0-6 in their inaugural season as LaJoya rushed for 401 yards and scored 27 first-half points in a 54-6 win for LaJoya, the seventh-ranked team in current 5A-Division II power points.

Jeremiah Cornist accounted for 171 yards for LaJoya, including a long run of 59 yards. LaJoya (3-1), which won its fourth straight game after opening the season with a loss to Willow Canyon, averaged nearly 15 yards per rush.

Valley Vista, meanwhile, had troubled getting its offense going. The Monsoon only rushed for 40 yards on 32 carries, but had modest success throwing the ball. Quarterback Aaron Seifert completed 8-of-20 passes for 69 yards, including a 15-yard touchdown pass to Jeremiah Brown in the fourth quarter.
