It wasn't the victory the program had hoped for, but Valley Vista continued to make progress last week by scoring 13 points against the region champs.

Deer Valley clinched at least a share of the 5A-Division II Northwest Region crown with a 48-13 win over Valley Vista in Glendale. The Monsoon, however, were able to put two touchdowns on the board in the fourth quarter, ending an 11-quarter scoreless streak.

Jamaul Armstrong rushed for 156 yards for Deer Valley, including three touchdowns. Two of his touchdowns came in the first quarter as Deer Valley jumped out to a 21-0 lead.

The Skyhawks extended the advantage to 42-0 by halftime, which pushed the game into "speed up" rules in the second half.

Valley Vista was able to get on the scoreboard in the fourth quarter when leading rusher Andrew Buckland rushed into the end zone from 18 yards out.

The Monsoon got TD No. 2 later when Aaron Seifer tossed a 29-yard touchdown pass to Jeremiah Brown to complete the scoring.

Valley Vista (0-9 overall, 0-4 region) will finish its season Nov. 2 at Kingman (1-8, 0-4).
