Willow Canyon forced to travel to Tucson for playoffs

NOV. 2, 2007 -- Willow Canyon is headed for a playoff rematch against Ironwood Ridge.

The Wildcats' 35-21 loss to Goldwater Friday night dropped them in the 5A-Division II power points poll, which determines seeding for the playoffs. Willow Canyon (7-3) dropped to the No. 13 spot after the loss, which aligns it to play No. 4 Ironwood Ridge.

The two teams battled earlier this season with Ironwood Ridge pulling out a 19-14 victory in the Wildcats' home opener. This time, however, the game will be played in Tucson.

The AIA uses power points to determine which 16 teams get into the playoffs and where they are seeded. Each team receives 50 points for a victory and five additional bonus points for each team’s opponents wins.
